Disrupted Learning Town Hall Forums

Right now, many of our students are entering our classrooms not ready to learn. From homelessness, trauma, unmet mental health needs and others, challenging behaviors are disrupting learning for all students. At the same time, class sizes are growing, resources are shrinking, and educators are being asked to do more with less.

OEA is hosting town hall forums across the state to increase awareness of this issue and work toward building safe, inclusive, and welcoming classrooms for all students

As educators and as an organization, we are deeply committed to the success of each and every student, and we work hard every day to support all students. This fall OEA will host a series of 10-12 community forums. Oregon Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction Colt Gill has committed to attending several fall events, including the ones in Salem on November 7th, and Eugene on November 14th.

Simultaneously, Deputy Superintendent Gill has convened an Advisory Committee on safe and effective schools. OEA has three member representatives and one staff representative on this committee.

Forums will continue in the fall in the following locations and dates:

  • Hermiston: Wednesday, October 3

  • The Dalles: Thursday, October 4
    4:30 - 6:00PM at The Dalles Middle School
  • Beaverton/Hillsboro: Tuesday, October 9
    4:30 - 6:00PM at Meadow Park Middle School
  • Astoria: Wednesday, October 17
    5:00PM - 6:30PM at Astoria High School
  • Coos Bay: Thursday, October 25
    5:30 - 7:00PM at Heritage Hall at Marshfield High School
  • Bend/Redmond: Thursday, November 1
    5:00 - 6:30PM at Skybox at Ridgeview High School
  • Medford: Thursday, November 8
    4:30 - 6:00PM at North Medford High School
