About the Center for Public Affairs
The most important voice an elected official can hear is that of an educator! The expertise, stories, and experience of those working on the frontlines with Oregon students is key to shaping effective public education policy. OEA’s Public Affairs Government Relations Team connects OEA members directly with elected officials. We are working to help educators reshape Oregon politics locally and statewide.
The Government Relations Team is dedicated to helping educators elect pro-public education candidates at every level of government that will promote good public education policy and protect the rights of educators. OEA’s Legislative Objectives guide policy positions at the legislative level, and the OEA Public Affairs staff serve as a resource on policy issues such as school funding, teaching and learning, licensure, collective bargaining, PERS, health care, as well as electoral issues.
Additionally, the OEA Public Affairs Team is here to help educators develop a strong political presence at the local level. We assist members with strategizing for organizing local political team, running a successful OEA-PAC Drive, engaging in community coalition work around local political issues and candidates, as well as ensuring effective political participation for statewide candidates and ballot measures.
OEA’s Communications Team, also housed in the Center for Public Affairs is here to help tell the good news story, and do our best to help the public and politicians understand the reality for educators and students. OEA Communications produces multiple publications for educators including Today's OEA magazine.
