Why Vote? An OEA Member's Answers
OEA member Reed Scott-Schwalbach in 2010 sent an email to friends & colleagues: "Public funding, and those who decide where it goes, directly impacts how many students I have (200 this year) and who I work with (a woman I worked with for 6 years lost her job in this year's cuts. We no longer have a single female PE teacher for our 1,900 students)." Read more.

Important Dates for Election 2012

November 8, 2011 - Special Primary Election for Congressional District (CD) 1

January 31, 2012 - Special General Election for CD 1

March 9-10, 2012 - OEA-PIE Convention

April 24, 2012 - Voter registration deadline (Check or update your voter registration)

May 15, 2012 – Primary Election

November 6, 2012 - General Election

Among the recommendations to be decided by members at the March 2012 OEA-PIE Convention:

- Secretary of State

- State Treasurer

- Attorney General

- Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor & Industries

Members will also be voting to recommend candidates in the following federal races:

- U.S. President

- U.S. House of Representatives (Districts 1-5)

In the coming months, local OEA-PIE members will be interviewing Oregon House and Senate candidates in their district to make recommendations for the November general election. Look for an updated list here starting in Spring 2012.

How Does OEA Make Recommendations?
OEA members who belong to our political action committee People for the Improvement of Education (OEA-PIE) decide all federal, statewide, and local recommendations based on pro-education criteria and extensive candidate interviews. Read more about OEA-PIE.
