OEA-PIE Convention 2010 - March 5 & 6
Hilton Eugene & Conference Center
66 East 6th Avenue
Eugene, Oregon 97401-2667
Held every two years, OEA's People for the Improvement of Education (PIE) Convention will take place on March 5 & 6, 2010 at the Hilton Eugene & Conference Center. More than 300 member-delegates will gather to recommend candidates for statewide and federal offices. OEA is unique among labor unions in having its recommendations result from such an open, broadly democratic process.

The Convention is filled with activities, candidate speeches, question & answer sessions, caucuses, and floor debates. 2010 will mark the 32nd year of the OEA-PIE Convention and many original attendees of the original 1978 Convention are expected to participate as active delegates.
Questions about OEA's essential need, and your need, to get involved in candidate elections? Read "Why Politics?". Also read more about OEA-PIE.

Candidates are also starting to turn in their answers to OEA-PIE's questions on public education funding, policy, and collective bargaining. Read their responses here (OEA member login required)
Registration
All OEA-PIE delegates must be registered to attend the convention. Note that registration is only for the event, and that any room reservations must be made separately (see "Room Reservations" below). All registrations are due to OEA by February 19, 2010.
Regular registration is now closed. If you want to register at the OEA-PIE Convention as a Late Registrant, please contact Jackie Judge in OEA Government Relations: jackie.judge@oregoned.org

OEA-PIE delegates are responsible for their own hotel reservations (room cutoff deadline is February 19, 2010) which can be made directly online at this link, or calling the Hilton Eugene at: 800-937-6660. At this time a waiting list has been started for hotel rooms. We will know by Monday, February 22, 2010 how many rooms are available at the Hilton Eugene. If we need to book overflow rooms we will make a determination at that time. Please contact jackie.judge@oregoned.org

Meal Notes
Light appetizers and refreshments will be served prior to the opening of the convention on Friday, March 5. On Saturday, March 6, we will provide a continental breakfast, lunch, and late afternoon refreshments for all delegates.
Unable to Attend?
Some scholarship funds are available (see "Scholarship Information" below).
Proxy Votes: If no one from your Local is able to attend, a proxy form is available for your Local if you wish to have a delegate from another Local cast your Local's votes. NOTE: do not use this proxy form to obtain permission from your local president to cast your Local’s votes at the convention.
Scholarship Information
As a result of motions brought to the OEA-PIE Board of Directors in the past, there has been money allocated for limited use by locals to fund attendance at the OEA-PIE Convention:
• There is a total amount of $1,500 available, to be distributed at the discretion of the OEA President.
• Given the limited dollars, priority consideration will be given first to hardship cases. Issues such as local commitment and involvement will be considered, (i.e., is the local providing some funding support also)?
• All requests for this scholarship funds must be submitted to Jackie Judge at the OEA Government Relations office by Friday, February 19, in writing via email, letter, or fax:
