What is OEA-PIE?

OEA-PIE (People for Improvement of Education) is OEA's political action committee (PAC). Through this arm of the Association, OEA members and other Oregonians help elect pro-education candidates to public office.

Anyone may become a member of OEA-PIE by giving a voluntary contribution. These contributions are separate from regular Association dues and not a condition of OEA/NEA membership.

OEA-PIE: How We Do It (2008)

How does OEA-PIE Decide Which Candidates to Support?
OEA-PIE members evaluate and recommend pro-education candidates using a unique, thorough, non-partisan, and democratic process.

Locally, OEA members interview candidates before making their recommendations.

Statewide elected officials and candidates for federal offices are selected at the OEA-PIE Convention, held in even-numbered years. For more on this process and criteria, read "Who Decides?". Also read this year's candidate responses to the OEA-PIE questionaire (member login required).

The OEA-PIE Board of Directors works with the results of the local level processes and the statewide OEA-PIE Convention to determine campaign targets. Additionally, the OEA-PIE Board interviews and then recommends candidates in contested judicial races. See who is on the OEA-PIE Board of Directors.

OEA-PIE considers candidates from all parties for its recommendations, which are based on local OEA members' assessment of how candidates measure-up to established criteria.
