| | | Nationwide, 47 states allow teachers to wear religious clothing in public schools. Oregon hasn't followed suit - but the Legislature may lift the ban soon. » Read Today's OEA magazine | PSO Found in Violation of "Back to Work" Agreement At the end of the PSO strike in October 2008, the OEA and PSO entered into a “back to work” agreement. It provided that: “…in the interest of restoring a stable employer-union relationship and promoting harmonious labor relations…the parties shall take no reprisal of any kind or in any form against the other or against any person because of any lawful action taken, statement made, or attitude expressed during negotiations…” In October 2008, OEA filed a complaint against PSO for violation of this agreement. The complaint was based upon numerous strike related postings maintained on the PSO blog that were critical of and demeaning to OEA board members, leaders and managers. OEA maintained that these postings were antagonistic to the restoration of harmonious labor relations and a reprisal against board members, leaders and managers. Following an arbitration on October 8-9, 2009, an arbitrator agreed with OEA and found that PSO violated the back to work agreement by its blog postings. The arbitrator entered the following award requiring both OEA and PSO to post his award on our respective websites. Read the Award. | |
