OEA-PIE 2008 Convention
March 7-8, 2008: Salem Conference Center

Nearly 350 Oregon Education Association members attended OEA’s People for the Improvement of Education (PIE) Convention on March 7 & 8 to recommend candidates for statewide and federal offices. OEA is unique among labor unions in having its recommendations result from such an open, broadly democratic process.
2008 marked the 30th year of the OEA-PIE Convention, and many original attendees of the 1978 Convention were in attendance as active delegates.
After a day and a half of candidate speeches, question & answer sessions, caucuses, and floor debates the OEA-PIE member reached the following recommendations:
Oregon Statewide Races
State Treasurer - Ben Westlund
Attorney General - John Kroger
Secretary of State - Kate Brown
Federal Races

"This year marked OEA’s 30th year of recommending candidates through a statewide convention. This weekend, OEA-PIE members had the opportunity to hear directly from the candidates, ask questions, and conduct an extensive and at times lively debate," said OEA president Larry Wolf. "The candidates who received a recommendation from OEA-PIE have all shown clear and consistent leadership on their support for public education and school employees."
