PeaceJam 2008
If you are a high school teacher, OEA has a training opportunity for you and two of your students (ages 14-19) that can take your service learning projects and global education to the next level!
On Thursday, December 4, 2008 from 4:30 to 9:00 pm at OEA headquarters in Tigard (click here for directions) you can connect your students with 12 Nobel Peace Prize winners and youth from around the globe who are growing leaders to create a better world. OEA, Oregon State University (OSU), and PeaceJam Northwest will provide the curriculum and connections to inspire our youth to work for a peaceful, just, and environmentally sustainable world.
Click here for a registration form! (Deadline for submission: December 1, 2008).
Each participating team will receive a PeaceJam curriculum notebook, a copy of the book PeaceJam: A Billion Simple Acts of Peace (Penguin Young Readers Group, 2008), dinner and registration fees for a one-day PeaceSlam event (training follow-up) to be hosted by Heritage High School in Vancouver, Washington in January or February 2009.
If you are an OEA member, this opportunity will be made available free of charge with a commitment to pilot this program in your classrooms, schools or communities.
Non-OEA member training is available at an affordable fee of $150 per team (one adult and two youths: ages 14-19).
It is important to follow your district policies about working with students on school projects outside of school hours, including but not limited to parental permission.
